My New Toy

Look what I found in my company's store room lying amidst dusty boxes....an Eveready Scout Light!!! It is such a cool torchlight! It was discontinued almost 10 years ago due to lack of ppl buying it but it is so so functionable!

This is it with a belt clip....

It has morse code printed on 1 side...

It can function as a normal torchlight...

You can pull it up to reveal a brighter light

There is one more function that I didn't snap a photo....its mirror function which can be pulled up after the light above looks like this....for emergency purposes...for example...checking if your makeup has melted (just kidding)...the mirror function is used as a way to communicate by flashing it against the light.

This is indeed a nifty torch light to have whilst camping. Too bad it didn't come with a compass in it as well though...

A Visit to Butterfly Park

I accompanied my friend LY to the Butterfly last Sunday for a casual shoot. Hunny drove me there. It has been many months since my last macro shoot. Alot of photos didn't turn out as nice as I wanted to them to. Here are some of the more passable ones...

I guess I will get more practice since Hunny just bought a new Nikon D90...

Malacca Trip - Mille Crepes

What is Mille Crepe?

Mille Crepe is made up many layers (at least 20) of crepes (thin french styled pancakes) sandwiched with fresh cream, and maybe some fruit puree. It's available in Nadeje, Malacca as well as Section 17's Food Foundry. The cake is very light yet rich but very yummy! It is best eaten within 2 mins to 5 mins of serving. We had 2 rounds of Mille Crepe at Nadeje during our stay. All slices of the cakes are RM8.50 with the exception of several varieties that can cost slightly more. Nadeje has a policy that if you eat in, you must at least order 1 drink. This can turn out to be pricey for just the two of us. We spent close to RM40.00 each time we were there with 2 slices of cakes and 2 drinks.

1st day, we had the Chocolate Banana Mille Crepe and the Berry-Berry Mille Crepe. Hunny who seldom eat desserts enjoyed the Choc Banana one whereas we found the Berry-Berry one too sweet for our liking. Have to wait for my Hunny to give me the photos as I didn't bring my camera out that day.
During the 2nd visit on Sunday, there weren't much choices left and we settled for a slice of the Original Mille Crepe and a slice of the Chocolate Marbled Chiffon Cake.

Hunny as usual enjoyed the original Mille Crepe but he wished that there was more fragrant honey topping on the top layer of the cake.

This is the Chocolate Marbled Chiffon Cake. I didn't quite like it as I found it abit tough.

Here's my Mango Soda

Do try it out if you are in Malacca. Best eaten there!

Malacca Trip - Chicken Rice Balls

Last weekend, Hunny and I took the advantage of the long weekend holiday due to Divali to go to Malacca. We stayed at a hotel called Seri Costa Hotel near Mahkota Parade and Dataran Pahlawan, Malacca Megamall. Sorry no pictures!

We were there to chill out and enjoy the food but the traffic congestion was horrendus! Hunny's car overheated a few times because it was so sunshiny and hot there while being caught in the traffic congestion. Later, he found out that it was due to no water in his engine.

I wanted to eat the mille crepe from Nadeje, orh jien and chicken rice balls whilst in Malacca.

We had chicken rice balls at the Formosa Chicken Rice branch (near Renaissance) and Hoe Kee (in Jonker Street). What is chicken rice balls? It is simply chicken (roast or steamed) served with rice cooked in chicken stock and other ingredients (to make it fragrant and tasty) and then shaped into mini balls (ping pong sized in some places to golf ball size at other places).

We had this set at the Formosa Chicken Rice Ball shop. It was not good. The riceballs and the chicken weren't fresh. We had a side order of Chicken Feet Thai Salad but the taste wasn't as refreshing as we wanted it to be as it was too sour.

The saving grace to this meal was the roast pork. The skin was still crisp and the meat were an even distribution of fats and flesh.

Here is what we had at Hoe Kee Chicken Rice Ball shop in Jonker Street. Everything was nice except for the steam chicken as it was overcooked and the chicken lost its slipperly smooth flesh taste.

This was the queue at 11am...but the boss is very efficient in seating customers.

Next up is Mille Crepes!!!!

Canton-i at Centerpoint, Bandar Utama

I believe that this outlet is one of the better tasting branches of the Canton-i & Dragon-i empire in Malaysia.

We had an appetizer of Pork Shank with jellyfish and this is a cold dish. The pork shank was only so-so but the cold crunchy refreshing jellyfish strands made up for it.

Next, we had a hot appetizer...Beijing Dumplings...they were just served in a plain white bowl and Hunny and I thought they were just plain meat dumplings until we bit into it and were rewarded with a mouthful of superior broth! The skin of these dumplings are thicker than the normal xiao loong baos but I prefer these dumplings to the latter.
They also taste good with black vinegar and ginger strips...

Have you tasted duck that taste like bacon?? I haven't until I ate Smoked Duck Breast Meat Slices in Canton-i. They tasted superbly divine! I was expecting the usual gamey n slightly tough duck taste and meat but to my absolute surprise...it was tender and had a nice bacon-ny taste! The la-mian (hand pulled noodles) was also yummy...I thought it was probably gone through a noodle machine as athe strands were really standard in length and size but a closer look revealed that it was professionally hand pulled as there were a little unevenness of size. The noodles were well cooked al-dente. I really enjoyed this dish..

Truly a satisfying meal at Canton-i at Centrepoint Bandar Utama.

Chicken Satay at O & S Kopitiam Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya

Satay is the ultimate yummiest grilled marinated meat on skewers in Malaysia and Indonesia!
Check this out!!! Yummy!! Slightly sweet, really tender, very little fats, nicely grilled without too much burnt bits...and only RM0.50 per stick!!!

The satay are usually accompanied with onion and cucumbers to balance up the meatiness with some vegetables and all these can be dipped in roasted crushed peanut sauce with chillies and spices.

Recent Eats...

Dumplings are defined as fillings of fruits, veges or meat encased in a piece of dough or rice. Every country has its own version of dumplings...Chinese dumpling can be found encased in dough, dough sheets or rice...Italian dumplings are gnocchi or raviolis, etc...

1. I think there was a festive occasion happening in the korean community over this weekend as I saw many many dumplings being prepared and packed at the Korean BBQ Restaurant at Lower Grd, Low Yat Plaza...

2. So..I decided to order their dumpling to try out...

3. The dumpling skin is thicker than our normal dumpling....minced meat contained inside with some bits of prawns, spring onions, pork, and a lil ginger

4. Then Hunny and I ate at Canton-i at Centrepoint BU....Beijing Steamed dumpling....yummy...skin is slightly thicker than their xiao loong bao but a nice surprise when we bit in to it....had yummy soup encased in it too...best eaten with a hint of vinegar...

Here are some of the food that we ate at Canton-i...

5. cold dish pork shank and jellyfish...served with a vinegary sauce

6. My smoked duck breast la mian...yummy...the smoked duck breast tasted like bacon!!! not a whiff of the gamey duckie flavor...

I find this outlet taste so much better than its sister restaurant (dragon-i) at 1U and Pavilion KL...yummy....I must try the Canton-i in 1U and compare...

Breakfast at O`Briens

Last Weekend, Hunny and I ate at O`Briens and it cost him close to a whopping RM55!!!

Here is what we had...

1. Mocha with a shamrock design...

2. I had a pot of soothing Earl Grey Tea

3. This is my shambo combi which was all veges and I added chicken that cost us an additional RM3.00...don't like this bread as I found it dry and not chewy...I'll go back to my fav wrappo the next time we eat here...

4. Hunny's fav triple decker chicken sandwich...chockful of veges and meat and turkey bacon...

5. Hunny bit this into a house shape...is it a sign that we have to buy a new house soon??

The reason y we eat in O`Briens is bec of the fresh ingredients and they don't stinge on the ingredients to make a wholesome sandwich...
Last weekend, Hunny and I ate at O'Briens...a whopping RM60 bfast for just the 2 of us...

Current Updates

I have been neglecting this blog due to an overload of work in the office recently...due to downsizing, my company has decided not to re-hire certain positions after the original employee has resigned causing the workload of those who have gone o be spread out and absorbed amongst the rest of the employees...I too, has been affected by this change. Hence, I work longer hours and come back too exhausted to blog or even indulge in my favorite macrography...

Random Pictures taking at Papan

After breakfast in Pusing, we drove to Papan to visit its waterfall...unfortunately it was shut! That sounded so ridiculous to have a waterfall that is shut on weekends. So we drove back to Papan town to shoot some abandoned buildings instead. Here are some random pictures....
Papan Kindergarten

Abandoned Shop Lots and residences

Praying Grounds but many didn't realized and stepped on the wooden boards

Years of neglect...over-runned with bushes - Side View

Front View

Haunted House's windows?

Gloomy Staircase

Broken pillar but still standing strong...

It was a lovely trip shooting so many street shots....
