Bunny eats at Busy Corner, D'sara Jaya again

We were hungry after our movie in Tropicana City Shopping Mall but we didn't want to eat there. We weren't sure if Busy Corner at Damansara Jaya was open as we normally go there for dinner but we still swung by there to check. We were lucky that they were open for lunch.

We ordered the Prawn Claypot Rice (RM22) for 2 person serving. See those yummy big juicy prawns!! Well worth our RM22 although we wished the prawns could be fresher.

We also ordered their steamed soup and both of us had the peanut and lotus root soup. In the afternoon, it is not as nice as dinner time's soup as we felt it has not been steamed long enough. Hunny commented that the peanuts were not soft enough whereas I felt the soup was not too sweet enough compared with the last time we drank it at night. RM4.50

Altogether, our meal cost us RM31.50 because Hunny had a cup of Iced Chinese Tea.

A Trip Back To Hunny's Hometown...Hakka Mee

2 weekends ago, Hunny went back to Chemor for Ching Ming Prayers and I tagged along for a makan trip and a short getaway...

We left my house at 5am and reached Ipoh at 7.30am. Our 1st stop was to eat Hakka Mee with 2 Shutterasia.com members, Chow and Jetfynn.

It was rather crowded so early in the morning at The Paris Restaurant

The Hakka Mee Stall

I ordered Barley while waiting for Jetfynn to turn up....yummy 100% real barley...

They also served bfast of toasted breads and buns with eggs...but we were there for the Hakka Mee..

Close Up pics of the buns...

Yummy Garlic mixed with vinegar sauce....Hunny told me not to kiss him if I had any... :(

Hunny knew that I was after my usual Pork Tummy Innards Soup Noodles and hence didn't allow me to eat the Hakka Mee...instead he let me eat the "liew" (the accompanients) that came with the Hakka Mee.

Hunny's Hakka Mee

The Fried Dough Balls...texture is more densed than yau char kuai or yue teow...

The yummy springy fish and meat balls

The Springy fresh fishball

The yummy pork meatball mixed with fish paste

The dried cuttlefish in this meat+fish ball made it extra tasty...

Nanxiang Steamed Dumplings

We ate here sometime last year.

Hunny and I ate at this pricey establishment in The Curve as they taste much better than the dragon-i Restaurant upstairs.

This is what we had...

1. Pickled cucumbers with garlic and chillies

2. Seafood fried La-Mian

3. Herbal Chicken Soup Noodles. The noodles came in a separate bowl and the chicken soup came in a mini pot and tasted nice and herbally. The noodles were salted and when the soup poured over it and it was just nice.

4. Steamed soupy dumpling. I remember the skin was a bit too thick.

5. Dessert - Longan with snow fungus

The bill came up to about RM70 for the 2 of us.

Canton-i at Centerpoint, Bandar Utama

I believe that this outlet is one of the better tasting branches of the Canton-i & Dragon-i empire in Malaysia.

We had an appetizer of Pork Shank with jellyfish and this is a cold dish. The pork shank was only so-so but the cold crunchy refreshing jellyfish strands made up for it.

Next, we had a hot appetizer...Beijing Dumplings...they were just served in a plain white bowl and Hunny and I thought they were just plain meat dumplings until we bit into it and were rewarded with a mouthful of superior broth! The skin of these dumplings are thicker than the normal xiao loong baos but I prefer these dumplings to the latter.
They also taste good with black vinegar and ginger strips...

Have you tasted duck that taste like bacon?? I haven't until I ate Smoked Duck Breast Meat Slices in Canton-i. They tasted superbly divine! I was expecting the usual gamey n slightly tough duck taste and meat but to my absolute surprise...it was tender and had a nice bacon-ny taste! The la-mian (hand pulled noodles) was also yummy...I thought it was probably gone through a noodle machine as athe strands were really standard in length and size but a closer look revealed that it was professionally hand pulled as there were a little unevenness of size. The noodles were well cooked al-dente. I really enjoyed this dish..

Truly a satisfying meal at Canton-i at Centrepoint Bandar Utama.

Recent Eats...

Dumplings are defined as fillings of fruits, veges or meat encased in a piece of dough or rice. Every country has its own version of dumplings...Chinese dumpling can be found encased in dough, dough sheets or rice...Italian dumplings are gnocchi or raviolis, etc...

1. I think there was a festive occasion happening in the korean community over this weekend as I saw many many dumplings being prepared and packed at the Korean BBQ Restaurant at Lower Grd, Low Yat Plaza...

2. So..I decided to order their dumpling to try out...

3. The dumpling skin is thicker than our normal dumpling....minced meat contained inside with some bits of prawns, spring onions, pork, and a lil ginger

4. Then Hunny and I ate at Canton-i at Centrepoint BU....Beijing Steamed dumpling....yummy...skin is slightly thicker than their xiao loong bao but a nice surprise when we bit in to it....had yummy soup encased in it too...best eaten with a hint of vinegar...

Here are some of the food that we ate at Canton-i...

5. cold dish pork shank and jellyfish...served with a vinegary sauce

6. My smoked duck breast la mian...yummy...the smoked duck breast tasted like bacon!!! not a whiff of the gamey duckie flavor...

I find this outlet taste so much better than its sister restaurant (dragon-i) at 1U and Pavilion KL...yummy....I must try the Canton-i in 1U and compare...

Breakfast at Pusing Town

Last Weekend, Hunny and I met up with the SA group for a short trip to Papan (A small town in Perak) Herbal Garden and Waterfall Park. We met up first in Pusing (3 KM from Papan) to have breakfast first. Pusing is well known for their roast pork curry noodles but unfortunately we reached there late and had their normal fare instead. According to the rest who reached earlier, the roast pork was divine and their crackling skin was the BEST..

Here's what Hunny had....Chicken Feet Curry Wantan Noodles

Here's What I had...Wantan Mee with Char Siu and Dumplings. The char siu was juicy and tender without being too fatty...

A closer look....yummy...

Here's what we shared....Yong Tau Foo (abt 6 pieces)

The noodles were really yummy...no taste of alkaline in it. Alkaline is added to the noodles dough to make it have the "bite" but in this case, not only that we couldn't detect the tell tale alkaline taste, the noodles had that "bite" to it.

The total bill only came up to about RM12 plus 2 chinese teas...absolutely yummy and CHEAP!

Fong Lye, Gardens, Mid Valley

Hunny brought Bunny to eat at Fong Lye last Tuesday as we couldn't eat there on Friday as they were really packed...

The restaurant serves Taiwanese sort of food. This is what we ordered...TW Fried Chicken, Fried Tempura, Pork Intestine Set, Tea Smoked Duck with Glass Noodles and 1 Mineral Water. The order style was like Kim Gary whereby we had to write down our own orders with the order form and pencil provided by them.

The cup that came from the mineral bottle is so cute. Hunny drank from the cup as it contained ice whereas I drank straight from the bottle as I didn't fancy cold water that night.

Hunny did the ordering and I enjoyed this. It's Fried Tempura and it tastes like Keropok Lekor (a type of fish paste deep fried cake, native to East Coast States in Msia) with 5 Spice Powder (A popular combination of spices used in traditional chinese cooking). According to my Hunny, he said that it's tender chicken coated in batter and deep fried...but to me, it tasted like flour paste coated with 5 spice powder and then deep fried. Anyone here can help me verify which is true?

Hunny's Tea Smoked Duck with Glass Noodles came next. It tasted average according to him but he liked the fact that the duck was lean yet tender but he could barely taste the tea in the smoked duck. I had to avoid duck because the sinseh told me so as I was still nursing my sore ankle that night.

Our next appetizer of Taiwan Fried Chicken came next. They were piping hot and not oily at all. They tasted like KFC mini poppers but better. They were crispy on the outside and really juicy and tender on the inside. I must say that they have good oil temperature control.

Then my Pork Intestine Set (RM18) came. A mini pot of hot and sour pork intestine stew, a big bowl of rice with minced pork topping, a ginseng soup and a plate of 3 appetizers

The set also came with Prawn Dumpling, Blanched French Beans, Shredded Egg Omelette with dried mushrooms, carrot shreds and prawns. I only ate the french beans and let my hunny eat the other 2 because I couldn't eat prawn either due to the sinseh's advice.

Due to the vinegar used to make this spicy and sour base, I didn't quite enjoy this stew. I felt that the pig intestines weren't cleaned enough as it still had "that" taste. I also don't like to eat congealed pork blood unless it's been grilled...yet I finished all the intestines (about 4-5 pieces only) and left the rest in the pot.

The rice was nice and chewy and went well with the minced pork topping.

Hunny said that the soup was nice. He had to finish it and the fried chicken as I was too full and I did help him by finishing the Fried Tempura.

Overall, I would like to try this restaurant again to taste their other dishes and maybe next time just order 1 appetizer only as 2 was too much for us. I think the meal for us totalled up to around RM50.

Ipoh Food....So So Yummy!!!!

I have held back blogging on this as I feel so hungry each time I look at these photos again...Now that I am full after lunch, this is the best time to tell u all about what I ate in Ipoh.

Breakfast Day 1

1. Green Juice - Pegaga Juice or Pang Tai Woon

2. Pork Tummy White Pepper Soup with Kway Teow Noodles

3. Sinfully Delicious....tender and chewy....

Breakfast cost us RM8.50 for 2 glasses of pegaga, 1 bowl of pork tummy kway teow and 1 bowl of spare ribs double noodles.

Lunch Day 1

4. We ate Roast Meats here...

5. Roast Duck, Roast Pork and Vegetable Stew...

6. A closer look at this crispy skin lean duck...

I think this meal was below RM50....not too sure...but not exceeding RM50 for sure...

Breakfast Day 2

7. Foh San DimSum...reached here at 7am plus plus...the place was packed!!!

8. We ate quite little as my tummy wasn't awake yet...we only had loh mai kai (glutinous rice chicken), egg tarts, char siu bao, siu mai and har gao....

9. Char Siu Bao (BBQ Pork). The filling was yummy...not too sweet and there was a mixture of lean meat and fats (more lean than fats) and some onions in char siu sauce. Really yummy...

10. Egg Tarts - Warm custard...yummy but I much prefer Tong Kee's flaky pastry...

11. The Art of Releasing the Loh Mai Kai from its bowl...

a.) Tip the bowl over and use the chopsticks to help ease the rice out...becareful..it's hot!!!

b.) After it loosens, this is how it looks like sliding out of the bowl...use your chopsticks to push out any that might still be in the bowl....

c.) Voila...all out and ready to be eaten.

This was the best loh mai kai the both of us had in ages. The rice was not too oily or mushy. The chicken and the marinates tasted just right and was fragrant from a touch of chinese rice wine...

12. Siu Mai - The pork filling was very fresh and there was no gamey porky taste. It wasn't too oily too...

13. Har Gao (Prawn Dumpling). 1st time I eat such fresh prawns in har gao...best thing...it was pure prawns inside the skin...no pork meat fillers like the ones I get in KL...

14. A whole dumpling...

15. One Bite reveals....Prawns!!!

16. There were an average of 3 to 4 medium sized prawns in each dumpling!!!

The DimSum meal for 2 of us plus Chinese Tea cost RM29.00

Lunch - Day 2

17. Before we left Ipoh, we had pork satay...first time I ate pork satay....I enjoy the satay pork blood the most....the intestines were interesting and the pork was only so-so....

This Lunch cost us around RM25.00 as I had takeaway too....

I am very eager for the next makan trip to Ipoh. I hope it'll be very soon...
