Recent Eats...

Dumplings are defined as fillings of fruits, veges or meat encased in a piece of dough or rice. Every country has its own version of dumplings...Chinese dumpling can be found encased in dough, dough sheets or rice...Italian dumplings are gnocchi or raviolis, etc...

1. I think there was a festive occasion happening in the korean community over this weekend as I saw many many dumplings being prepared and packed at the Korean BBQ Restaurant at Lower Grd, Low Yat Plaza...

2. So..I decided to order their dumpling to try out...

3. The dumpling skin is thicker than our normal dumpling....minced meat contained inside with some bits of prawns, spring onions, pork, and a lil ginger

4. Then Hunny and I ate at Canton-i at Centrepoint BU....Beijing Steamed dumpling....yummy...skin is slightly thicker than their xiao loong bao but a nice surprise when we bit in to it....had yummy soup encased in it too...best eaten with a hint of vinegar...

Here are some of the food that we ate at Canton-i...

5. cold dish pork shank and jellyfish...served with a vinegary sauce

6. My smoked duck breast la mian...yummy...the smoked duck breast tasted like bacon!!! not a whiff of the gamey duckie flavor...

I find this outlet taste so much better than its sister restaurant (dragon-i) at 1U and Pavilion KL...yummy....I must try the Canton-i in 1U and compare...

Kimchi Chigae on a Cold Night

Yesterday started off very hot in the morning and up till 15.00 hours. Then winds started to blow strongly and it rained horses, cats and dogs till about 17.00 hours turning it to a cold cold day. It was very cold in office and I wanted something warm, spicy and slightly sour like a kimchi chigae stew to comfort myself as my bf wasn't free to bring me out for dinner.

What is kimchi chigae?? It's a korean stew like soup "cooked and served boiling hot in a stone pot. Widely available in Korea, it contains kimchi as well as other ingredients such as green onion, onion, tofu, pork, and seafood, although pork and seafood are generally not used in the same recipe. Like many other Korean dishes kimchi chigae is usually eaten communally from the center of the table if more than two people order it. It is accompanied by various banchan (side dishes) and rice.

Kimchi chigae is often cooked in Korean homes using older, more fermented, kimchi, creating a much stronger taste and containing higher amounts of "good" bacteria also found in yogurt. The stew is said to be more flavorful if prepared with older kimchi, while fresh kimchi might make the taste less desirable*". (* copied from wikipedia)

After work, I headed off to Low Yatt Plaza's LG to the Korean BBQ house to order this stew. It came with a bowl of rice and side dishes of anchovies and kimchi.

The stew was sour, salty and spicy and it smelt really appetizing....very warming to my belly on a cold evening...

In the stew, there were glutinious rice cake slices, cabbage from the kimchi, pork slices, green onions and tofu. Very yummy to be eaten with rice.

This meal cost me RM19.80 inclusive of 1 glass refillable cold green tea. Delicious~~!!!

Korean BBQ Restaurant @ Low Yatt Plaza

I suddenly had the urge to kimchi and off I hopped to this restaurant after work. This restaurant is located in LG Floor of Low Yatt Plaza and it's near the Baoz Counter and Kopitiam.

I ordered their daily specials which was Beef Bulgogi which is a beef and veggie soupy stew. There were 3 side dishes but I only wanted the kimchi white radish and kimchi cabbage ones only and I rejected the anchovies one.

The set came with the beef bulgogi served in a hot stone pot and a big bowl of rice. I also had a glass of iced green tea.

I didn't really fancy this dish as I found the beef too minced up to enjoy it properly. However, I love their kimchi cabbage as it tasted just right for my tastebuds.

The verdict is the prices are reasonable and this meal only cost me RM16.80. I will definately come back here again to try their BBQ meats when I am more richer.
